Washington DC, United States: Republican Jim Jordan, Representative for Ohio, is an ideal choice to be the new speaker of the House, stated the 45th president of the US – Donald Trump. His statement was made by Trump hours after saying that he could only take the job role for a short time if Republicans deadlocked over the selection.
This update was provided by Trump in a post on Truth Social, which was shared on early Friday. He was quoted saying that Jordan holds a strong command in sectors like Crime, Borders, our Military/Vets and the Second Amendment.
Former President Trump added, “He will be a ‘great’ Speaker of the US House.”
According to various reports by Fox News Digital, Trump announced Jordan as his choice hours after saying that if Republicans fail to reach a consensus on a candidate to replace Kevin McCarthy, Representative for California, “they have asked me if I would consider taking the speakership until they get somebody longer-term because I am running for president.”
Troy Nehls shared the news in the public domain:
Representative for Texas – Republican Troy Nehls, took to his official X handle (formerly known as Twitter) and stated that Trump will be endorsing Jim Jordan. “Just had a great conversation with President Trump about the Speaker’s race. He is endorsing Jim Jordan, and I believe Congress should listen to the leader of our party.”

Additionally, he expressed that he would also support Trump’s choice. “I fully support Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House,” he wrote. It is to be noted that Nehls was among the few Republicans who were supporting Trump and wanted him as the House Speaker.
Why this election of a new speaker is that important?
Former speaker Kevin McCarthy was abruptly removed by the group of Republicans on Tuesday. Following this, the lower chamber is paralyzed as without a speaker, the House cannot conduct important businesses, including passing the spending bills needed to avoid a government shutdown.
Who is Jim Jordan, Trump’s choice to be a new speaker?
Jordan served as the chairman of the powerful House Judiciary Committee. He was the first Republican to show interest in becoming the new speaker of the US House. It is to be noted that he is an open supporter of Donald Trump and has also led investigations against the Biden administration.

So far, Jordan is in competition against House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, who was the second Republican to announce his bid. However, the chances of Jordan (to become a new speaker) are high as Scalise is continuously questioned about his health. Scalise is battling cancer and is enquiring about his physical ability to do the job.
Patrick McHenry – the interim acting speaker of the US House!
McHenry, who is an ally of McCarthy, is serving as acting speaker of the US House. The Republic Representative was elected immediately after McCarthy was removed from the position. For now, McHenry’s role is to take up all the appropriate authority and responsibilities of a speaker.
Following the selection of McHenry, Republican Representative Kelly Armstrong stated that his main task was to get a new speaker. He further warned that anything further would lead him to removal from the job.
