United States: New data shows that many Americans are not getting their flu and COVID-19 vaccines. Only about one-third 34.7 percent of adults in the U.S. have gotten the flu shot, and just almost 17.9 precent have gotten the latest COVID-19 booster. This is because people are feeling tired from all the vaccines they received during the pandemic, even though health officials are urging them to get vaccinated.
As reported by the Medicalxpress, the data could still be a bit early, however: Another survey by CDC reported that as many as 41% of adults said they had not committed to take two shots or would “definitely or probably” accept them.
The reports are published in the Weekly Morbidity and Mortality Roundup, abbreviated as MMWR. Morb Mortal Weekly Report.
As reported by the Medicalxpress, the CDC also highlighted a third vaccine for the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) that is especially critical for the elderly.
By the Nov 9, 39.4 % of those born in 1946 or earlier aforementioned had ever reported receiving any RSV vaccine.
RSV protection may be upped with education, the authors of the report noted.
Another CDC survey revealed that a vast majority of the adults willing to take RSV vaccine had concerns; they lacked information about RSV and the RSV vaccine and had no healthcare provider recommending this vaccination.
Another report from CDC researchers show even among the most frail of the frail, nursing home residents, rates of vaccination are somewhat better, but still inadequate.
The report reveals that as of Nov. 10, 28.6% of nursing home residents had received a COVID vaccine this season. Per cent was even lower for the flu vaccine, 58.4%.
As little as 18% of patients in America’s nursing homes had received an RSV shot, according to the report.
For COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, vaccination rates were considerably less in the south.
In the opinion of the researchers, insufficient numbers of people who could benefit from vaccination continue to refuse immunization because newspapers and TV programs feed them misconceptions and doubts about the efficacy and safety of vaccines. There is much that staff members and families can do to encourage nursing home residents who are reluctant to get their flu, COVID and RSV vaccine shots to do just
